Hi all,
I have been curious for multiple reasons about the use of cloth products. Namely cloth toilet paper and cloth feminine products. For those who have used them, What has been your experience? also, what is the best place to get them? I hope this question doesn't sound weird or creepy. If you feel more comfortable not talking about this publically, that's fine. Feel free to pm or PQN me. also, I hope I posted this in the right place. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've heard of the health benefits and the good it does for the environment and the fact that it could save me money every month. for those reasons I am curious about that. Thanks in advance,
Leslie
I’m male and have an opinion on the feminine products, but what I’d like to know is do you intend to flush the toilet paper type, or wash them?
I’ve not seen anyone use these accept for baby’s diapers.
The feminine are mainly washed.
No matter how thin, eventually, you’ll clog your plumbing system.
Take that from a guy that has had to unstop many from that problem.
Paper softens from the water, so doesn’t cause this issue.
It also makes for trouble on the city system too. Workers must go and unstop these as well.
Don’t flush them. Pretty please!
Now, if you think about it, before we had fancy paper products women used the latter, and were just fine.
Even some women in my life used this and the only complaints were that while out, it is not as easy or disposable as paper, so they used paper for that, but cloth otherwise.
The health benefits come in to play due to the dye and chemicals in some of the paper products, but you can buy paper products that don’t have this.
Some women experience infections, or other problems from them.
More effort, but better all-around I believe.
You had asked were to buy these products.
The women in my life never bought anything even though you can get them on Amazon and such.
On the light days, they’d just wear heavy cotton panties and take an extra pair in their purses.
On the heavy days, they put a square of cotton or flannel in their panties.
They’d take a small plastic bag to put the used pad in and they’d carry some extras.
They just cut them from like a towel, or a diaper, or scrap material.
To keep them, they rinsed them after removing, then would simply wash them with the laundry, or towels.
I suppose you could even throw away a pad while out. It not be that much.
At bed time, they just wear cotton panties to bed.
They used the same ones for these times, and would just wash them was all.
I guess lots of women use cloth, or in my group anyway.
Again, never known anyone to use this for toilet reasons.
I hope that gives you some ideas.
Ahem, how public this forum is! But what the heck, it's for a good cause.
No, no! You do not flush cloth items! The whole point is that they are washable and reusable.
I can't comment on the alternative tp, I'm just not *that* commited! But yes, cloth pads are much nicer than what Forereel describes, not just folded squares of fabric, but sewn pads that snap in place. I suppose you *could* be that basic, but I wouldn't. May as well be comfortable, and get something that stays put and works as it should! They are more comfortable than disposables, a little more effort when we're used to just tossing these things, but worth that, for never having to buy supplies, which was what made me try them.
To remove stains, soak for about half an hour in cold water and a little peroxide, then wash as you would wash anything else. It's not a lot of extra work.
You get different results, depending on the type of fabric used, and can customize just about everything, length, thickness, etc.
Etsy is a good place to buy a stash, or buy just a few, if you wanted to try different styles. From just a cursory browse, Amazon's offerings are way overpriced! I'd advise avoiding it.
I will attempt to remember from which Etsy shop I bought mine, and pm you.
